Sea pigs and ALL deep-sea animals live at great depth, 1000 to 5000 meters..and the pressures down there, to organisms which live at the surface ARE tremendous. But that's the thing.. all of those organisms/animals have evolved IN THOSE SETTINGS and as such, don't worry about it. They WOULD and HAVE suffered stresses from being brought up to the surface. See
the OTHER post on sea pigs about why they can't be pets:

https://echinoblog.blogspot.com/2009/08/why-sea-pigs-scotoplanes-and-other-deep.html

But yes.. there are likely a whole suite of adaptations that function in these species to permit them to survive at this depth.. Is this actually true, or does the open circulatory system mean that sea pigs don't really have to worry about the extreme pressure? Do they have any adaptions that other sea cucumbers don't have to be able to survive in these environments? Thanks!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11928122938727932350noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3433304117507034540.post-13534156024202632112018-05-02T07:54:17.652-07:002018-05-02T07:54:17.652-07:00They are funny and funny looking. They are funny and funny looking.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3433304117507034540.post-31313561431124621502017-12-18T12:32:29.875-08:002017-12-18T12:32:29.875-08:00Its possible that these have plenty of predators b...Its possible that these have plenty of predators but we have very little information on their ecologyChrisMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11784970666468925633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3433304117507034540.post-78029562332132814492017-12-18T11:01:26.234-08:002017-12-18T11:01:26.234-08:00*nothing but parasites**nothing but parasites*Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3433304117507034540.post-89348950589321885012017-12-18T11:00:36.268-08:002017-12-18T11:00:36.268-08:00How come nothing but eat them? How come nothing but eat them?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3433304117507034540.post-33031717232915603632016-08-04T11:27:07.653-07:002016-08-04T11:27:07.653-07:00Nice bit of information.
